hmm, how do I answer this without getting in to a lengthy explanation?
If indeed you have download a "torrent file" then you have not downloaded a "real" file.
Do some more research on the procedure of working with "torrent files". Then the transfering the data you acquire from a .torrent file should be evident.

Do u have a torrent program? If u downloaded just the torrents file, u need to get something like mutorrent, and have it extract the files for u. Then, u can put them onto your MP3 player. But, go with what SKPoet said, and do a bit of research on working with them.

Think of the torrent file as only a request for the actual information you want to download.

For example: if you want to download an album, you first have to download the torrent file, which you have already done; then, you will open up that file with the program of your choice: Utorrent, for example, and this program will download the actual music files onto your computer.

So, there are 2 basic steps.

After you have done this, and all files have completed downloading, you would just put them into your mp3 player in the same way you would any other file.

Confused?

But, its not gonna happen just like that. U also have to look at how many seeders u have. The more u have, the better. Seeders r the people who have that same torrent, and r letting people download it from them. Leachers, u don't want. their people who take it from u, theirby slowing u down.

See why I didn't want to get in to a lenghty explanation?
Wikipedia already did the leg work, why repeat information thats already out there?
Not to mention there are countless resources :)

the point of this bord, as with all of them, is that we're meant to be a community therefore we should be able to ask for help if we have a problem, no need to be like that.

@7, you just annoyed me to the point where i've logged in purely to post a responce.
Everyone that posts to this board is offering there knolige free of charge.
They are using there spare time to help you, who they probably haven't and won't ever meet and won't get anything in return for that. How then do you have the right to come back at the posters in the manner that you did in post 7, probably because you didn't like / didn't understand what you were told?
Everyone that has responded to this thred clearly has much more knolige regarding torrents than you do, and yet you dismiss there responces and the fact that they are giving away there knolige for free? If you do not find the answer to your question, how about paying your local computer tech ££ or what ever you traid in to come round your house and give you a tutorial? I kno I for one would much rather try and get some free help, help for which I would be very greatfull.
As was stated in post 6, there are countless resources / tutorials that have been created for the pure purpose of answering your question in much detail any passing poster would care to contribute to this topic.
Did you even google your question?
I am quite sure that no band relies completely on bit torrent - songs would probably be posted on youtube or there myspace if bandwidth was a issue for them. Because of this, I am deducing that you are asking help for something, which is quite frankly illegal.
Factoring this in, this gives even more reason for anyone that may kno the answer to your question not to post; why should they get involved with topics that are of a questionable nature such as this one?
Searisly, have a google, read some wikis, learn stuff and then you'll not have to ask this again.
BEN.

Wow, post 8, that is allot of anger.

What's the point of answering a simple question such as this one by saying the equivalent to: Look it up?

At least if one is going to suggest doing one's own research, let's give a link or two, you know, somewhere to start the person off.

With that said, I see no legality issues with this board.

Do a Google search for torrents, and there will be a bunch of sites that will come up.

Sites like Mininova.com and the thepiratebay.org are good resources. They provide you with information on how torrents work as well as offer you programs with which to download torrents if you don’t already have one.

Have fun…

"What's the point of answering a simple question such as this one by saying the equivalent to: Look it up?"

"Wikipedia already did the leg work, why repeat information thats already out there?"

Did I not give a great resource?
This is what I got from typing in .torrent
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.torrent
As you can see from going to that site, there is much to explain about torrents.
Then I typed in "how to use a torrent file" in google and got
http://www.sidewalkcrusaders.com/bthowto/btstart.html
My first hit! What a concept :).
I'm sorry, but when someone asks a question to which I can point to the net for an easy answer, I will do so. I simply lack the immense time it will take to explain the concept of a torrent file, or any file that can be googled, wikipediaed, etc.
Of course, anyone else here is welcome to "retype" information that is already out there. Finally, if my post was rude, distasteful for referring to external resources, please explain how.

Pointing isn't much help, unless you actually refer to something in particular, which you have now done.

I'm sure the original poster now has a good place to start learning about torrents.

Hmm SKPoet

And we wonder why flaming is out here. I agree with post 8 and people don't understand why I get annoyed and post harsh comments. yeah, so my words of wisdom on here are, Fuckin look it up! I am willing to help, but only with things that are not easily found on google. I will not do work for lazy people. Google, google, google! Post 8. if I wasn't already hated, I would have posted the same thing.

I suppose more people are waking up to why I'm so pissed. Glad to see it

When someone asks for help and has or doesn't have an answer back is to this day now much debate. We investigators seem to be so tired of typing that omg... I cannot even believe i am stil typing this... ow... excuse me, but my fingers are cramming.... anyway, torrents are a very simple form of protocol. A torrent file contains information (or metadata) that points to people who have the files you want (usually in the form of IP addresses), so again here we go to more referencing. Torrent clients simplify the job of getting the files from you by connecting to the other clients which other people have and downloading the desried files. Once you begin downloading, you will begin to upload to others what you have gotten so far (here we go with the community sense, just as we would be expected to contribute information, you're expected to contribute feeback). Now, regarding legality is such a horrible sensitive topic that the freedom of anything (even speech!) is limited on this site, which claims to assert full control over that right you have. If you view this content as offensive, just because you can indeed find all kinds of content via torrents and through this site, so big deal... disregard it, what you don't know doesn't hurt you, right? I remember when I first agreed to join this site there were no terms of service. Complaints about freedom of speech because of harassment and very offensive language used against audiences under 13 brought these policies to be in place, so we can conclude that even complete freedom endangers us to be safe (there are millions of examples to justify this, even on this site). Some posts have been deleted, others have had accounts disabled, and thus complete freedom was never achieved because of such uncertainties and unstabilities. Getting back on the torrent topic: You just grab a free torrent client (bi comet, Utorrent) and open the .torrent files with that client. Depending on the people who have the full torrent and the ones who have part of it or are still downloading (leechers) there is a ood chance that you can get a torrent. Note that leechers aren't bad on most instances: If you have album images on a cd and no one bothers do download them, keep on mind that even if the torrent has 0 seeders and some leechers can still get you a full song list (assuming all the leechers have all the songs). In cases in which you have joined a private community which shares torrents, leechers can be sought as an opportunity to increase your ratio by having more to share to others. So, if you wish to transfer what you have downloaded from a torrent, use your normal procedure via the copy and paste commands or the transferring methods offered by most media players.
